J. Oscar Bittinger

Bruce in the house!

PLAYS: Guitar, Bass, The Red Button (recordist/producer)
SINGS: Lead & Harmony
WRITES: Songs and blarney

J. Oscar believes that all the best music is Folk music, not just because it is made by "folks" instead of "cows" - but because it is inclusive of both folk and cows (though performed more frequently by people).

Of Scots-Irish, German and Sicilian stock, J. Oscar grew up in the music and language of the church — with 60's & 70's folk and pop stirred (or shaken) in. Not surprisingly, choir boy days gave way to rock and roll nights...

In middle-life he renounced former hedonistic pursuits to embrace the aesthetic philosophy of "bothandist." This change may account for a renewed focus that includes imagistic, socially conscious lyrics, and an uncannily rapid strummed guitar style. He takes seriously accusations that he is a control freak though likely will talk you out of believing them.

"A great folk song may be one that was handed down over generations or topically composed to meet the needs a local population;  telling the news or synchronizing work. Created by the community to create community, these songs helped people get though the day and to make sense of their world in their time.

"While future songs for crew managers, baristas and database administrators will likely seem quaint, and perhaps archaic, someday - it's hard to not join in the singing with fry-basket wranglers, mall greeters, and lyric law clerks here and NOW!"
